Hey y'all. I have a hard time believing that January is coming to a close. Time is flying by so quickly! We've lived in Japan for over 6 months and it really does feel like home to us. We always say "home is where the doggies are waiting for us". And most likely, wherever we go from here in the next 3 years, those doggies will be sitting at Yokota waiting for their family to come home. :-)
A lot of changes are headed our way in the next 2 months! Well I suppose one BIG change will cause a lot of little changes? With baby Copeland due at the end of March, I can already say that the mixed emotions of preparing to become a Mommy to a little person that will grow into a big person with a family of their own, is quite a roller coaster ride. I guess I just need to get this off of my chest and out in the open.
I am fully aware of the fact that I am a first time mom. I know that I don't have all of the experiences of a woman who has already had one kid or even has 3. I don't know if I'm the only pregnant woman that feels this way but I can't help but notice that when other folks hear that we're doing something different, like cloth diapering, or whatever, I always here this "Ooh.. Are you sure you want to do that? Do you know how much a baby poops when it's first born?"
Hold on a second... NEWS FLASH! WHAT?! Babies poop!? Please tell me you're joking. I did not sign up for this mess... Where can I get off of this crazy train?? Oh.. I can't get off here? Or the next stop?? :-)
I've learned an important lesson while living in Yokota. The first one is that not everyone is excited about childbirth in the way that I am... I acknowledge that. The second one is that because of the first lesson, I keep my mouth shut now. If you want to know something, ask. I don't ever want to come off like a know-it-all. Because I am not. I am still just a woman that has as much to learn about life and mothering as the next one.
AND about this Babywise thing... I realize that there is a degree of flexibility that makes it work for some people. However, Gary Ezzo, as a person, needs to get his facts straight. And maybe, if you're interested, you can equip yourself with some background info on this man. You might be surprised by what you find out.

well said. And i am sure you know how much poop there is. and I just want to throw it in a landfill somewhere.. sorry. (im half joking.. half). But girl.. people do CD everyday and you will love it. ;-)

Is there a diaper service on base or nearby? I have a friend in San Diego who plans to do cloth and is using a diaper service. I hear the price can actually be cheaper than buying regular diapers. I still choose to go the "easy" route and add to the landfill as well. But I think we're getting very close to being done with diapers all together with Jaxon. Yay for success with potty training! You'll make it work no matter what and breast-fed babies have little, liquidy poops anyway - so it's not like you'll be changing the cloth diaper of an adult.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what to say on the Babywise thing except I didn't figure it out with Jaxon and lost my milk and had an underweight baby. Adopted some of the ideas with Dakota and have had a huge supply of milk from day one, a baby sleeping through the night since she was 2 weeks old and actually on the charts for weight! You know me though, I don't look too deeply in to people's intentions. Parts of it worked for my friends, so I thought I'd give it a try and my adaption worked for me too. As a mom, you just adapt to whatever you decide works for you. We can't wait for Baby C!!
I can't believe that Baby C is almost here! I read Babywise, and it is the same as horse handling and training books. You take bits and pieces that work for you and make it your own and what works for you and your baby :-) At least that was what worked for us. Good luck, you will figure it out as you go. You have common sense so you will be a great momma :-)
ReplyDeleteMy Aunt said the same things about us cloth diapering. Strangely I have never even considered using "disposables", so I never really looked at it as "extra work". As far as Babywise I haven't even gotten that far. At this point I'm just trying to keep my sanity during this pregnancy.

From the Mama of a 6 month old: ive said from 3 weeks on, I WILL use cloth diapers with my next newborn...Do you have any idea how much newborns poop, and do you have any idea how not substantial it is, and do you have any idea how many diapers you throw away for having the tiniest bit of poop in them? its insane. 6 month old poop is a different story though :O)
